George William Moore, 77, of Roanoke, a loving husband, dad, and paw paw went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, September 8, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgie and Jessie Moore, brothers, sisters and a son, George W. Moore, Jr. Mr. Moore retired from the V A Hospital and served with the 3rd Infantry Division of Army Rangers. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Jean Moore; children, Shirley Altis and fiance Joe Graham of Pulaski; Karen Wimmer and husband Marvin of Salem; Lew Moore and wife Kristi of Roanoke; God Son, John Westmorland, Jr.; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Austin and Flora Harvey and husband Charlie all of Roanoke; and a special friend Tator. The family offers a special thanks to the Amedisys Hospice staff for the excellent care provided during George's illness. A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Steve Robinson and the Rev. Don Shepherd. Interment will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
