Joy Moses Gunter, 84, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, July 8, 2018. She was born in Catawba, Va., the daughter of Wesley and Fannie Moses, on September 23, 1933. Joy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas J. Gunter; brothers, Wesley J. Moses, Jr. and Day Moses; and a sister, Jane Moses.

 

She graduated from Fincastle High School in 1950.

 

She is survived by her three sons, Jimmy (Dee), John (Wendy), Tyler (Amy), Richmond, Va.; and two sisters, June Moses Wood and Peggy Moses Wood, Catawba. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Joy was affectionately known as "Mamoo" by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

 

The family will receive friends, July 12, 2018 at Bliley's Funeral Home, 8510 Staples Mill Rd in Richmond, Va. from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life will be held July 13, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke, Va. at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1 p.m. before service. Interment will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke.
