James (Howard) Brown 83 of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 7, 2012. He was reunited with his parents, Charles and Annie Brown, and a brother, Robert Brown. Howard was a long time member of Faith Baptist Church in Salem. Served proudly in the United States Air Force, Retired from Valleydale Meat Packers as a Night Shift Supervisor after 35 plus years of service and resided at the Virginia Veterans Care Center since March, 2012. He was known and loved for his banana pudding and it was requested for every family gathering. In his spare time he also enjoyed making apple butter, playing cards and doing puzzles. Howard had a kind heart and will be dearly missed by his loving and loyal wife of 62 years, Frances Brown; three sons, James Brown and wife Cindy, Don Brown, David Brown; grandchildren, Ashley Austin and husband Greg, Danny Brown and wife Amee, Michael Brown, Melissa Brown, Dave Brown and Eve Brown; three brothers, Elbert Brown of Franklin, Harold Brown and wife Helen of Wisconsin, Ray Brown of Bedford and a sister, Gay Brown of Wytheville; along with numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also a very special niece, Maggie Rife. Family will receive friends 3:00pm-5:00pm, Sunday, September 9, 2012 at Simpson Funeral Home. A service celebrating Howard's life will be 11:00am Monday, September 10, 2012 at Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Junior Westmoreland officiating.
