Rose Marie Marcum, 84, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Monday, September 3, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert L. Marcum, parents, Grover and Hallie Smith, sister, Ruth Smith, and brothers, Alonza and Grover Smith. She was employed for several years with the Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Department. Mrs. Marcum was a member of Green Ridge Baptist Church and volunteered at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for a number of years. Surviving are her daughters, Linda Susan Bevins and husband Dale of Delaware, Ohio; Carol Ruth Gilman and husband Ron of Delbarton, West Virginia; son, David Albert Marcum and wife Cindy of Roanoke; grandchildren, Amy Midura, Michael Bevins, Trevor, Evan and Lauren Hubbard, Audra and Ryan Marcum; great grandchildren, Samuel and Sarah Midura, Riley Bevins, Sophia Midura; Tristan, Casey, Addison, and Emilee Hubbard. The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff in the Palliative Care Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their many acts of kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Heart Association. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Troy Mays. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
