Roger James Barnes, 56, of Roanoke passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, August 31, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father, James Marion Barnes. Roger was a 1974 graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and worked in inventory control for U S Foods for the past twenty-seven years. He was a member of Southview United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Dianne W. Barnes; sons, 1st Lt. Joel R. Barnes, USAF Misawa, Japan; Travis R. Overstreet and wife Val of Annapolis, Maryland; daughter, Meghan Barnes Biggert and husband Nicholas of Bossier City, Louisianna; grandchild, Ryleigh Overstreet; mother, Edith Adelene Vest Barnes; mother-in-law, Claudine S. Walker of Vinton; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins including a special cousin, Debbie Smith of Check. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Angels of Assisi 415 Campbell Avenue Roanoke, Virginia 24016. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Larry Edmonds. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
