Lois Aileen Hughes, 85, of Roanoke died Friday, August 31, 2012 at Carrington Place in Daleville, Virginia after an extended illness. She was born October 13, 1926 in Danville, Virginia a daughter of Wesley C. and Ila Williams. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hughes, sister, Marion Jefferson brother, Wesley Williams, and a daughter, Joan Harpine. Lois was a loving mother and grandmother. She was beloved by many friends. She braved this world with strong Christian beliefs and will be greatly missed. Surviving are her children, Gary Newman (Mary); Edwin Newman, Melanie Silverman; grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth Newman, Joshua, Amalia, Eliana, and Joshiah Silverman; and son in law,Fred Harpine and special friend Marilyn Donald. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Gentle Shepard Hospice 6045 Peters Creek Road Roanoke, Virginia 24019. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
