Obituary of James Edwin Axelsen

James Edwin Axelsen, 88, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 6, 2018.  He was preceded by his wife Virginia Dumon Axelsen,  brother, Robert E. Axelsen, parents, August M. and Mildred W. Axelsen; and step son, Robert M. Linkenhoker

Mr. Axelsen retired from the City of Roanoke.

Surviving are his daughter, Mildred L. “Millie” Gillie; numerous grandchildren, step sons, Frank Linkenhoker and wife Patricia, Howard Lewis; former daughter-in-law, Sandra H. Wimmer; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Carol Ann Andes and husband D. J.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff on 3 Main at Friendship Manor for their devoted care and many acts of kindness and compassion.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road.  Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home.  366-0707
