Obituary of Eleanor Hale Hall

Please share a memory of Eleanor to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Eleanor Hale Hall, 86, of Daleville, beloved mother and grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 26, 1932 in Roanoke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard E. and Bertie Jane Hale; and her first love, Ted Cutright.

Surviving are her children, Debbie McLauchlan and husband Scott, Johnny Cutright and wife Debbie, Julie Leonard and husband Mike; grandchildren, Courtney Cutright, Brad Cutright and fiancée Carlie Mueller, Tyler McLauchlan and wife Carrie, Chad Leonard and wife Rachel, and Amanda Leonard; great granddaughter, Lennox Cutright; brother, Chuck Hale and wife Susan; sister, Linda Mauck and husband Mike; nieces, Melissa Mauck, Amy Krohmer and husband Rich; nephew, Rusty Hale and wife Mary.

Eleanor graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke. From her first job as a cable girl with the telephone company until her retirement as a small business secretary, Eleanor worked to provide for herself and her family. Her most important roles included serving as a caretaker for her mother and a special cousin, Jo Church, and being Granny Ellie to her grandchildren, whom she taught to love jigsaw puzzles, board games, cards, cross-stitching, and walks on the beach to hunt for seashells.

She spent many hours stitching with her quilting group, the Botetourt Beulahs; sewing, crocheting, or tinkering on her iPad. She thoughtfully gifted many handmade creations over the years, which will be treasured by her surviving family and friends.

Eleanor loved and served her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as a longtime member of North Roanoke Baptist Church and more recently as a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She also enjoyed participating in the ladies’ Bible study with Botetourt Community Church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Heath, Dr. Skelton, Jolee, Libby and Liz of Blue Ridge Cancer Care; Nurse Jack and Carilion Hospice; and caregiver Donna Edwards for the love, compassion and care provided during Ellie’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the University of Mary Washington Relay for Life (checks made payable to the American Cancer Society), P.O. Box 688, Blue Ridge, Va. 24064 (online at main.acsevents.org/goto/aleonard); Help Save The Next Girl, P.O. Box 8062 Roanoke, Va. 24014, or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Ellie’s life will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 4930 Country Club Road, Troutville with the Rev. Rob Marsh and the Rev. Darryl Crim officiating.  The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
