Obituary of Jerry L. Joynes

Jerry L. Joynes 83 of Roanoke formerly of Crisfield, Md. Passed away Sunday March 4, 2018 with his family by his side. A daughter Mandy Payne preceded him.

 

Jerry was in Radio Broadcasting for many years, he was the voice of Roanoke working for WROV from 1954 until 1964. Then followed by years at WFIR and the Voice of the Hokies Basketball.

 

He is survived by a son, Tommy Joynes and wife Lee Ann, daughter, Kelli Monsees and husband Bill, son, Brad Joynes and wife Tracy, and a daughter, Nicki Joynes: grandchildren, Tommy Joynes, Jr., Brandon Joynes, Christopher Joynes, Sara Stanley, Kassie Cimmino, Devan Monsees, Alan Joynes, Katy Moore, Blake Joynes, Bryson Atkinson; great grandchildren, Karol-Lynn, Haley, Ava, Noah, Cloey, Christian, Drew, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Jennifer, James, Emery, and Ady. Along with numerous friends.

 

The Joynes family would like to thank the staff at RMH Palliative Care Unit for their care of their father.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Roanoke City Rescue Mission in his memory.

 

A memorial service will be held 3:00pm Saturday March 10, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Mays officiating. Family will receive friends from 2:00pm until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.simpsonfuneral.com.
