Obituary of William Cornell Smith

William Cornell "Bill" Smith, 89, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 22, 2018. He was preceded by his identical twin brother, Wendell Allen Smith and parents, Harold and Virginia Dunn Smith.

Bill proudly served his country in the U S Army. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech. Following graduation Bill began a career in architecture with Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern. He later retired from the Marriott Corporation having been one of the designers of the first Courtyard by Marriott Hotels. He was a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church and a former member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Springfield, VA

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Betty Body Smith, sons, Terry Smith and wife Linda, Dale Smith and wife Kim, Jim Smith and wife Sherri; eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to South Roanoke United Methodist Church 2330 S. Jefferson Street Roanoke, VA 24014.

Funeral services will be conducted noon Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-0707
