Terri, and family: I had no idea that Dave had passed until this morning, Feb.26, 2018. I am so sorry. He and I had a good relationship I thought and each year that went by it was stronger.
I've tried to find your home number but don't know where you live other than Vinton.
I'm coming to Roanoke tomorrow Tuesday to come by the plant and do a phone repair or replacement at Verizon's Mall strip store, but don't know what time.
Since you just had a voicemail on messages today, perhaps you'll have time to give me a call at 540-520-1298 to let me know who has taken on Dave's responsibilities, of which there were many. I'll miss him I know. Read Lunsford

I very saddened to hear of David's passing. Let me express my deepest condolences to all of Dave's family and friends who will miss him greatly.
In our school years, David and I lived in the same area of Roanoke County. Thus we went to the same schools for all 12 years, road the same bus, and graduated together in the same class of 1974 from William Byrd High. During that time we had lots of friendly banter talking about sports, academics and all kind of life events. Dave was always so easy going, respectful to all but preferring to interject laughter and a sharp keen wit whenever possible. Yet he was able to naturally mix that into a calm smooth seriousness in his academics as an honor student.
I only saw Dave a hand full of times since high school but every time I did see him it was with those same back and forth greetings of smiles and laughter of which had no choice to do anything other than lift my spirits higher. I feel very sure everyone who knew him would describe him that way as well.
We will miss you Dave, but we will remember you.

Dave and I met in eighth grade 49 years ago - we became friends and were as close as brothers through high school. Those that knew Dave knew that he and our gang of friends had quite a good time in school. And even afterward - for years - our gang still kept together to share memories and create new "good times".
Along with the fun we also shared day to day moments - hours upon hours of playing basketball, late night poker games, rooting for Ali, and vacations to the beach. It was Dave that talked me into choosing JMU as the college to go to - and after that, through his contacts at his work got me my first job out of college.
And though our time together dwindled as we grew older we still kept in touch and managed a boys night every once in a while - our Fridays after Thanksgiving - always.
He is someone I loved and always admired for his insight. I will miss him constantly "giving me grief" and that unique laugh.
His early death is heartbreaking to me.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to Terri and their sons and their grandchildren. Dave was a man of many good things but above all a loving & devoted husband and a proud father.

My love and prayers are lifted up for your family. David was one of my most favorite friends, like a brother in high school and a confidante in my early 20s. He was wise beyond his years and more than once saved me from bad relationships. I hope he’s laughing about that now! He will be missed dearly.

We had some fun times over the years and I wish now we would have had more. I can honestly only remember a few times where we were together that we weren't laughing and cutting up. The other times were "discussions" you had with me because I didn't make the hot delivery in time. haha. You were taken to soon but you always seemed to live life to it's fullest and that is about all a person could ask for. This is just a reminder to all of us that are left to miss you that life is too short and we should try to find some sunshine in every day. The older I get the more I realize Family and Friends an a good relationship with the man up stairs is all you really need to have had a successful life. I believe you had all three. You will be missed buddy!!
