Obituary of Bennie Lee Wertz

Bennie Lee Wertz, 80, of Cave Spring went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning February 2, 2018.  He was preceded by his parents, Harry Preston and Lena Mae Wickham Wertz, wife, Jean Prillaman Wertz, a brother, Samuel Carson Wertz and an infant great grandchild.

Bennie retired from General Electric after decades of service and served  for more than  20 years as a Drill Sergeant in  the Army Reserve.  He was an avid gardener and a fixture at the Salem Farmers Market.  There he had many loyal customers and friends.  He was a devoted member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are his sons, Stephen Lee Wertz and wife Patricia, David Wayne Wertz and wife Tina; grandchildren, Jason Wertz, Michelle Spencer, Derrick, Justin, Benjamin and Sarah Wertz; twelve great grandchildren, brother, Kenneth (Mac) Wertz; sisters, Betty Yeatts, Helen Fralin and husband Ray, and Doris Alexander.

The family would like to offer a very special thank you to the nurses and staff at Kindred At Home and Good Samaritan Hospice for their many acts of kindness and compassion.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by Pastor Tim Harvey.  Interment with military honors will follow in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home.  366-0707
