Obituary of Gladys Thurman

Gladys Kardos Thurman, 85, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 22, 2012. She passed peacefully at her home. For many years Mrs. Thurman was a member of Valley View Wesleyan Church. Her love for the church was shown by her faithful giving, service, and prayers. In the past few years she attended the Roanoke Valley Baptist Temple and enjoyed the ministry and fellowship there. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Julia Kardos; brothers, John and Steve Kardos and sisters, Julia Corse and Irene Childers. Surviving are her sons, Douglas Thurman and wife Brenda of Vinton; Jeffrey Thurman and wife Diane of Peachtree City, Georgia; grandchildren, Brent Thurman, Timothy Thurman, and Rebekah Thurman; sister, Margaret Grant of Roanoke; nieces and nephews including, Charlotte Taylor and husband Jim of Roanoke, Johnny Kardos and wife Joyce of Mooresville N.C. and a special great niece, Angela Hughes also of Mooresville, NC. Throughout her life Gladys was blessed with a loving family and many dear friends including, Lois Wade, Jetta Cole, Judy Parker, Nina Turner, and Frances Reed. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Roanoke Rescue Mission or the Samaritan Inn. Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. Terry Mabrey. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
