Obituary of Sarah Caroline Worsham Gustafson

Sarah Worsham Gustafson, age 88, of Salem, Virginia, passed away in her home on Wednesday, December 6, 2017.  Sarah was born in Petersburg, Virginia on November 22, 1929.  She married Thomas Gustafson of Tulsa, Oklahoma  on January 20, 1952.  They were married for 65 years.    

As the wife of a Foreign Service officer, Sarah lived and travelled all over the world for many years.  In the 1970’s, while her husband was at the State Department in Washington, D.C., Sarah enjoyed a very successful career as a real estate agent in Northern Virginia.  When her husband retired from the Foreign Service, they settled first in Richmond, Virginia and then in Salem to be near their sons.  Sarah was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed living near and taking care of her grandchildren in her later years.  She will be greatly missed by her family.

Sarah is survived by her husband Thomas, her sister Jane McLean, her daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Jonathan Hesse of Plantation, Florida, her son Mark and daughter-in-law Judy Gustafson of Salem, Virginia and her son Michael and daughter-in-law Giulia Gustafson, of Salem, Virginia, her grandchildren Anna Fausnacht , Evan and Kyle Hesse,  and Luca, Isabella and Marco Gustafson, and her greatgrandaughter Ashira Fausnacht.  The family will have a private ceremony.
