Obituary of Barbara Ann Darnell Jefferies

Barbara Ann Darnell Jefferies 92 of Salem went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday December 7, 2017. Born on September 13, 1925 in Waynesboro, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John Mingy and Mary Glenn Darnell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elwood Christian Jefferies, and a daughter Barbara Glenn, and her sisters, Jaqueline Darnell and June Buckley.

She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Salem.

Ann went back to school after having her four children and graduated in 1962. She taught school in Roanoke County, and Columbus, Ohio. She then went back to school in 1968 so she could teach at the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, Maryland.

She was a member of XY Epsilon Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Women’s International Sorority in Hagerstown, Maryland. This chapter was a moving force on the local scene. Also, Ann was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sarasota, Florida.

Surviving children are Ellen King, Chris (Mary Fran) Jefferies, and Mark (Sylvia) Jefferies. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, Angella (Dean) Clemons, Tiffeny (John) Brooks, April (Andy) Norman, Tonya (Craig) Atkins, Beth (Caleb) Twigg, Becky Jefferies, and Tommy Jefferies, Mark, Jr. (Margaret) Jefferies and Jason Jefferies. Also surviving are fourteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

Ann was a very loving wife, and mother and her beautiful smile will be missed by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Dementia Society of America.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00pm Monday December 11, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019 540 366 0707. Inurnment will take place in Waynesboro, Virginia at a later date.
