Obituary of Ernst Meier

Ernst Meier of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Thursday November 16, 2017 at the age of 76.

He was born in Otelfingen, Switzerland and came to the United States as a young man to pursue his career to become a Chef. He was employed by the Federal Government in chosen profession and Hotel Management and traveled the world to oversee the Military Bases and Hotels. After many years, he retired from the West Point Military Academy on June 8, 1998. After his move to Roanoke, Ernst went to work as a Chef at Camp Bethel in Fincastle, Va. where he was known as “Chef Meier”. He was also involved in his community in various organizations.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Phyllis Hicks-Meier and her daughters, Stephanie Johnson and husband Jay, Jennifer Lynch and husband Roger; granddaughters, Lauren Crawford and husband Jason and Alex Cramer; his children, Sheryne Meier, Alyssa Meier, Aaron Meier and wife Melanie and their daughter Kenzie. Along with a host of other family and friends to numerous to mention. All will dearly miss a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Camp Bethel in Fincastle, Virginia in his memory.

A memorial service will be 11:00am Saturday December 2, 2017 at Hollins Road Church of the Brethren with Pastor Glenn Stevens and Pastor Stafford Frederick officiating.
