Obituary of Rita Housman

Rita A. Housman succumbed peacefully to her illness on November 14, 2017.

Rita was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was an avid baker, gardener, and traveler. She loved being outdoors and entertaining friends and family in her Roanoke home. Rita relocated to Roanoke in 2006. She lived in many places, including Alaska. Her final resting place will be with her treasured friend and husband, Richard Housman in Arlington National Cemetery.

She was enormously proud of her four children- Carol Rehkopf and husband Bill of Mount Airy, Maryland; Diane Whittenberg and husband Fletcher of Fort Hood, Texas; Stephanie Drummond and husband James of Jacksonville, FL; and son Gary Pepper and wife Melinda of Chugiak, Alaska. Rita’s sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren will be remembering her with tickles, laughter and love.

The visitation will be held at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road from Noon Saturday until 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2pm . Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
