Obituary of Stephen Lynch Sanders
Stephen Lynch Sanders, 80, passed away on November 14, 2017, at Kroontje Health Care Center in Blacksburg, Virginia, due to complications of Parkinson's Disease.
Steve was born in Roanoke, Virginia, to Lynch Burton and Frances Critz Sanders on November 29, 1936. He attended Jefferson High School, Ferrum Junior College (Ferrum College), and was a 1960 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech).
Steve was first employed by Norfolk & Western Railroad. He went on to work for several coal companies and lived in Beckley, West Virginia, for 35 years. Steve was a car enthusiast and a dedicated race fan his entire life. After retirement, he and Joyce moved to Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, Virginia, where they spent many wonderful days walking the trails and enjoying the company of their neighbors.
Steve is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce Kraige Sanders, their two children, Catherine (Tom) Brasse and John (Gina) Sanders, and two grandchildren, Nicholas and Rachel Brasse. He is also survived by two cousins Hughes (Ruby) and Gordon Swain, as well as his brother-in-law and wife, Glenn and Dale Kraige, and their family.

A visitation/reception will be held at the Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd., Roanoke, VA on Friday, November 17, 2017 from Noon until 2 pm. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
