Obituary of Benny Monroe Hale
Benny M. (Ben) Hale, 77 of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Hazel Baine Hale, precious daughter, Crystal Dawn Moore; brothers, Lawrence (Pete), James (Peanut), Lewis, and Ken Journell and Don Hale; sisters, Blanche Holley and Juanita Francisco.
Ben was a member of the class of 1958 at William Byrd High School.
Ben or as he was affectionately known “Unka Ben” worked as a sales representative for General Mills, Kraft and Quaker Foods. Always one to stay busy, after his retirement he worked for ITT, Kroger and the AMF Bowling Alley. He was a member of the Masons and attended Zion Assembly Church of God. In the warmer months of the year he loved to spend time camping in Hillsville, VA. His camping there began in a tent, then a pop up camper, a travel trailer, finally graduating to a second home.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Diane Hale; daughter, Laura Brown, sons, Stephen Hale, David Ray Flowers and wife Crystal; Bradley Lewis Flowers and wife Blaire; son-in-law, Mark Moore; grandchildren, Jordan and Michael Flowers, Alysia and Avery Moore, Ethan and Jacob Flowers, Ian and Miranda Hale; Violet, Valerie and Heather; several great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Donna Kay Hale of Bristol, TN, Helen , Barbara, and Ann Journell of Roanoke; numerous nieces and nephews including Grant, Graig and Ricky Hale and special friends, Debbie and John Beasley and Norman and Jo Ann Davis.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the SPCA Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Pastor J. J. Davis. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
