Obituary of Charles Kenneth Johnson

Charles Kenneth Johnson, 81, of Roanoke passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. He was born on January 16, 1936, to Charles Matthew Johnson and Dove Lee (McKinney) Johnson in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Lubbock High School, attended Texas Tech University, graduated from Tennessee Temple University and Seminary, and earned his doctorate from Faith Evangelical Lutheran Seminary.

Mr Johnson was a Baptist pastor and missionary for 55 years, starting his ministry as the assistant pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas, and later serving as a missionary in Canada, and pastoring in Texas, Georgia, Colorado, and Virginia.  His ministry included mentoring other pastors and he especially enjoyed teaching church history.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 58 years, Norma Foster Johnson; two daughters, Elizabeth Stanford of Lubbock, Texas, and Victoria Johnson of Richmond, Virginia; two grandchildren, Whitney Stanford and Lance Stanford, both of Lubbock; his brothers, Gene Johnson and wife Judy of Punxsutawney, PA, and John Johnson and wife Sue of Lubbock, Texas; his beloved nieces and nephews, and many former church members who were dear to his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bobbie Lee Etter.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the missions fund C/O Brentwood Baptist Church 3912 Plantation Road Roanoke, VA 24012. 

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. The family will receive friends Monday, November 6, 2017 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
