Obituary of John Leroy Fridley

John Leroy Fridley, 90, of Roanoke passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017. He was born on Potts Creek in Allegheny County, Virginia on November 17, 1926. He was a Korean War Veteran and retired from Burlington Industries in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Joanna Fridley, brother, Berland Fridley, sister, Beatrice Gibson, and his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine Armentrout Fridley.

Left to cherish his memory are four children, daughters, Elizabeth (Libby) Gillespie and husband Rick, Sylvia Fridley, and Sharon Kidman and husband Allen; and son, Larry L. “Buz” Fridley and wife Paige. Also surviving are grandchildren, Paul Gillespie, John Gillespie, Larra Fridley, Shelly Terry, and great granddaughter, Kinsey Whittington, along with a number of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with James Crutchfield officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory. 366-0707
