Obituary of Linda Louise Cunningham
Linda Hall Vaught Cunningham, 80, of Salem entered eternity, peacefully at her home Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
She was preceded by her parents, Alfred and Edna Hall, husbands, Elmer D. “June” Vaught, Jr. and John M. Cunningham, and a sister Mildred Lee.
Linda was a polio survivor who inspired many with her strength and courage. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and retired as a head teller from First National Exchange/ Dominion Bank.
Surviving are her daughter, Lori E. Vaught and husband Alan W. Edwards; grandchildren, Savannah Vaught Edwards and fiancé Robert Childs, Geoffrey Bauer Edwards; sisters, Janet Richards, Patricia Maxey and husband Mahlon; step children, John F. Cunningham and wife Dawn, Susan C. Mahler, and Bruce Cunningham (Vicky); step grandchildren, Jason Cunningham and wife Jamie, Heather Miller and husband Cody, Audra Snyder; step great grandchildren, Abrielle Snyder and John Faelan Cunningham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a very special thanks to longtime friend Linda Whitnack for her many acts of kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Polio Plus Program C/O Rotary International 14280 Collections Center Drive Chicago, IL 60693. Please note Polio Plus on the memo line of your check.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2017 in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707.
