Obituary of Fred Ray Mowles

Fred R. Mowles, 83, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017. Fred was an avid golfer, an employee at Utility Line Equipment, and a long time crew chief for a local race team. Fred was preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Aldine Mowles; brothers Robert, Samuel, and Curtis Mowles, and son Douglas W. Mowles. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Shelby Mowles; children, David L. Mowles and wife Linda, Donald R. Mowles and wife Cathy, and Dannette Reedy and husband Timothy; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Chapel. A service will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Horace Light officiating.
