Obituary of Herbert Lee Hotinger

Herbert L. Hotinger, 67, of Roanoke, passed away, Thursday, July 20, 2017. Born in Rockbridge County on January, 23, 1950 to Eugene and Blanche Reid Hotinger, Herbert Lee Hotinger passed away on July 20, 2017.  He attended Natural Bridge High School, served four years in the U.S. Army and returned home where he married Debbie Johnson.  He is survived by their daughter Kelly and her three children, Emma, Dawson and Miles of Ft. Myers, Florida.  He is also survived by a sister, Geneva Milliner of Watkinsville, Georgia and a brother, Eugene Hotinger of St. George, Utah.  He was preceded in death by his brother Thomas M. Hotinger and his parents.

Following his Army service, Herb became a certified electrician and was hired by VFP Industries. When the company grew, Herb decided to create a career.  He attended National Business College and earned a degree in marketing and retired five years ago from VFP as an accounts manager.

Herb was a strong, good-hearted man who was loved and respected by friends and family.  His closest friends say that he was loyal and always offered kind words to those in need. He was intelligent and a great conversationalist of many topics from history to sports. His close friend Bill, describes him as being excruciatingly polite and a true gentleman. He enjoyed golfing and going to his favorite establishments to observe human interaction and talk with friends and acquaintances. He took pride in being independent, but he appreciated the support and care provided him during the past six weeks.  Tina Stepniak, a close friend, made sure he knew he was loved by his golfing buddies, friends and neighbors who visited him often, both at home and in the hospital.  He will be missed by his family and friends.
