John Wayne Wilkes 79 of Roanoke went to be with the Lord on Tuesday June 13, 2017.

Mr. Wilkes retired as a Master Printer after many years in the Printing business. During his spare time and in retirement he enjoyed gardening, working in their yard, and collecting antiques. However, mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family. A very loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Ruby C. Wilkes; children, Tim Wilkes and wife Becky, Robert “Rob” Wilkes and fiancée Carlene Clark, Tina Wilkes and fiancé Vance Reid; two grandchildren, Holly Wilkes, and Brandon Wilkes; sister, Patsy Johnson; brother, William Wilkes. Along with a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to say thank you to Medi Home and Hospice for all their compassion and care during this time.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Wilkes will be held 11:00am Friday June 16, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Pentecost officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Thursday June 15, 2017 from 6:00-8:00pm at Simpson Funeral Home.
