Obituary of Martha Johnson

Martha Hannigan Johnson, 93, of Roanoke passed away Monday, May 22, 2017. She was born December 19, 1923 in Winterstown, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late James and Amy Hannigan.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jennings M. Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson retired from Eli Lilly in 1986.  She was an active member of the Vinton Senior Center for many years in addition was a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church.  Following the death of her husband, she volunteered at the Carilion Cancer Center.

Surviving are her daughter, Anne Nichols and husband Fred of Indianapolis, IN;  son, Jay Johnson and wife Stephanie of Stokesdale, NC; and granddaughter, Shannon of Roanoke. Along with numerous nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She is also survived by long time friend and neighbor Phyllis Hicks-Meier and husband Ernest. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to North Roanoke Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017 at North Roanoke Baptist Church by the Rev. Daniel Palmer and Dr. Darryl Crim.
