Obituary of Betty Joan Swift

Joan Swift, age 85, of Roanoke passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017, three days before her 86th birthday. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Swift III; parents, Howard and Elizabeth (Johnston) Sites; and her companion of many years, John Sprowles. She passed peacefully in her childhood home in the loving presence of her son Jeff and her sister, Barbara.

Joan grew up in Covington Virginia and graduated from Covington High School. She enjoyed her job of many years as a teller at the Hollins Branch of Colonial American National Bank.

Joan is survived by her sons Michael Swift and Jeffrey Swift (and wife Patricia); granddaughters Aileen Swift (and husband Jay McMichen) and Kirstin Swift; great grandsons Everrett, Warren, and Garrick McMichen; sister, Barbara Mann; sister-in-law’s Ann Bryan and Isca Mitchell; niece Teresa Wiseman, cousin, Faye Pleasants, and many other loved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Joan’s memory to the American Heart Association.

A service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017, 12:00 pm, at Southview United Methodist Church, 3539 Peters Creek Road. Her family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall two hours prior to the service. Interment will be private.  Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory.  366-0707
