John Francis McShane of Roanoke, died Monday, July 9, 2012. John was the son of the late Archibald and Elizabeth McShane, he was born in Pawcutuck, CT, attended Connecticut schools and married the late Marcia Attwood Heath of Stonington, CT, April 30, 1949 in Stonington. John was a verteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy primarily in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Birmingham and earning a Bronze Star. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1954. He worked for Cooper Industries and Gardner-Denver in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. He has been an active member of the Episcopal Church, the American Legion, and the Florida Masonic Lodge. John is survived by his daughter, Marian and son-in-law William Headington of Rainbow City, Alabama; granddaughters, Patrice Headington Lane of Tucker Georgia; and Lisa Headington Gillespie of Jacksonville, Alabama; great grandson, William L. Gillespie; and a brother, Eugene McShame of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 42 E. Main Street Salem, Va. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or to a charity of your choice.
