Obituary of Ernest Ray Twigg

Ernest “Ray” Twigg, 88, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 26, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray E. and Winifred Twigg, brothers, Franklin, Alfred, John, and infant Richard, sisters, Betty Jane Ficik, Victoria Richards, and Norma Jean Federico; son-in-law, Stephen Bourne and infant granddaughter, Bonne Bourne, and parents-in-law, Ervin and Pearlie Fishel.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Betty Fishel Twigg; daughter, Debra Kay Bourne; granddaughter, Stephanie (Derek) Arnold; siblings, Joseph (Shirley) Twigg of West Virginia, Earl (Roxanna)Twigg of Ohio, Dailey (Susie) Twigg of West Virginia, Faye (Tom) Davidson of Ohio; and siblings-in-law, Kay (Dale) Cosner, Carol (Dennis) Bohrer, Joyce (earl) Haines all of West Virginia; Pauline (Ronald) Bennett of Virginia, Roger (Deanne) Fishel, and Jackie (Barbara) Fishel all of West Virginia.

Ray served stateside in the United States Army during the Korean War in the years 1951 to 1953. He shared many stories of his time serving in various states and postings. He worked at Koppers Industries for 42 years joining the company when he was 16 years old and retiring as assistant manager in 1987.

He loved hunting fishing and spending time with family.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Fort Lewis Christian Church 2931 West Main Street Salem, VA 24153.

A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Fort Lewis Christian Church by the Rev. Ben Moore. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home and Crematory. 366-0707
