Obituary of Katherine Elizabeth Shaw
Katherine Elizabeth Fielder Shaw, 83, of Hollins, passed away unexpectantly Friday, May 19, 2017, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She is now free of a failing earthly body and is now resting in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
Katherine was preceded in death by her loving parents, John R. and Dell Bourne Fielder; a son, Clinton W. Shaw. Jr. (Wally), and her beloved husband, Clinton W. Shaw, Sr.
Katherine and Clinton were married in 1953 and moved from Galax, VA to start their married life in the Roanoke Valley. She held down the fort and raised three children and multitudes of pets as Clinton traveled weekly as a furniture representative. Along with running three children to ballet and music lessons, as well as scouts and sporting events, she managed to volunteer countless hours at Burlington Elementary School where she received the Lifetime PTA Award
As her children grew, Katherine volunteered with TAP, Trust House of Roanoke, served on the North Roanoke Recreation Board, read for NPR radio, and assisted adults with reading difficulties. The Shaw family were among the founding members of Northview Methodist Church where she served on various committees.
Katherine is survived by her son David and wife Cindy (who she considered a daughter) of Boones Mill, and daughter Charlotte Shaw Moore Darby of Hollins; grandsons, Patrick Moore of Easley, SC; Rushton Shaw of Boones Mill; granddaughters Katrina and Jayden Shaw of Boones Mill. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Isabella, Lainey Katherine, and Oneil Moore of Easley, SC. She is survived by her brother, John R. Fielder, Jr. and wife Pat and sister-in-law, Helen Mink. Also surviving are much loved nieces, nephews and cousins.
