Obituary of Maynard Eugene Harris

Maynard E. Harris 84, of Cloverdale went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 17, 2017 while surrounded by his devoted family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lafayette and Ida Dooley Harris and a brother, Norman L. “Mickey” Harris.Mr. Harris served in the U S Army. He was a retired Teamster who worked with several trucking companies. Never one to like attention, he was an avid farmer, gardener, and fisherman. He loved spending time with his family camping. He was a gardener who always shared and encouraged folks to stop by and “pick a mess of greens”.Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Joyce Guilliams Harris; son, Timothy Harris and wife Rosemary; daughter, Nancy Harris Holmes and husband Dean; grandchildren, Garrett Harris, Rachel Holmes, Lance Harris, and Kenneth Holmes; sisters, Thelma Harris Byrd and Dorothy Harris Barnett; sister-in-law, Pat Harris; numerous nieces, nephews other family members and friends too numerous to mention.The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff at the Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Lewis Gale Medical Hospital for their many acts of kindness and compassion.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Cloverdale Church of the Brethren P O Box 85 Cloverdale, VA 24077.Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017 at Cloverdale Church of the Brethren by Pastors Patrick Starkey and Warren King. Interment will follow in Daleville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
