Obituary of Lewis Daniel Journell

Lewis Daniel Journell, 83 of Roanoke passed away peacefully Monday, May 1, 2017 at the age of 83.  He was a veteran of the US Navy and retired from the US Postal Service.  After retirement Lewis worked at Shenandoah Baptist Church and at Stritesky’s Flower Shop.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel B. Hale, father, Robert Journell, sisters, Juanita Francisco and Blanche Holley; and three brothers, James and Pete Journell, and Donnie Hale.

Lewis was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He was an avid gardener and servant to his church.  Lewis made many sacrifices to give his children a Christian Education at Roanoke Valley Christian Schools and continued his support of Christian Education through Renewanation. 

Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Barbara; children, Cindy Journell-Hoch, Mark Journell and Robin Muldoon and spouse Ryan; grandchildren, Jessica Whiten, Cassandra and Zachary Hoch, Logan and Sarah Muldoon, and great grandchildren, Jayden and Gabriel Jackson; also surviving are his siblings Kenneth and wife Ann Journell, Benn and wife Diane Hale; sisters-in-law, Helen Journell and Donna Hale; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to offer a special thanks to the staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center for the care they provided Lewis during the past few months.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home by Pastor Ray Campbell and Pastor Robert Alderman.  Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home.  366-0707
