Obituary of Peggy Hackley Nauman

Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Peggy H. Nauman, 84, of Roanoke went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 after a long courageous battle with dementia. The dignity and strength with which she fought were an inspiration to her family.

Peggy was born October 4, 1932 in Stanley, Virginia where she grew up and graduated from high school. In 1956 she moved to Roanoke where she was a stay at home mom until her children were raised. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she was employed with Sears for more than twenty-two years. She loved her work and many friends. Peggy was a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church for more than fifty years. There she served as teacher, Sunday school secretary, and cared for many babies in the church nursery throughout the years.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, Dennis E. Nauman; daughter, Gayle Nauman Deel of Roanoke; son, Douglas E. Nauman (Anne) of High Point, NC; grandchildren (who lovingly called her “Nan”) and whom she loved so much, Christopher Deel of Roanoke, Sean Deel of Nashville, TN, and Kimberleigh Anne Nauman of High Point NC; sisters, Shirley Dovel of Stanley, VA, and Delores Ferrell of Shenandoah, VA.

The children and grandchildren extend their deepest appreciation and loving thanks to Angela Bradshaw and to Good Samaritan Hospice for all their kindness, love and support during this difficult time. To our father and grandfather, we extend our thanks and appreciation for the continual care that he provided for mom in their home. His love for mom, sacrifice and devotion will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers please make memorial gifts to the Alzheimer’s Association to aide in their research for a cure.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with Dr. Joe Greene and the Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
