Obituary of Robert B. Kelley

Robert B. (Bob) Kelley, age 88 of Colfax, NC passed away April 23, 2017 at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, Kernersville, NC where he was a member. The Rev. David Rorie will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. A family graveside service will be at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. on May 8, at 11:00 AM, with military honors. Bob was born in Beacon, NY, on January 19, 1929 to Wesley and Leona Kelley. He was a retired employee of Alumax Aluminum Company. He was a dedicated family man and Christian, having served in various ministries at the churches he attended in Riverside, CA, and Charlotte and Kernersville, NC. He loved camping, traveling, sports, and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. A gentle and quiet man, he worked behind the scenes in many ways. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lu Kelley of Roanoke, VA; sons, David (Sheryl) Kelley of Lexington, NC and Steven (Lorita) Kelley of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Emily (Ryan) McKenica of Herndon, VA; Bryan (Nicole) Kelley of Huntersville, NC; Christine (Christopher) Saunders of Roanoke, VA; and Scott Kelley (fiancé Brenda Rodriguez) of Corpus Christi, TX; great-grandchildren; Hayden Saunders, Gabrielle McKenica, Bethany McKenica, Jack Kelley and Riley Saunders.
