Obituary of Howard Clinton Turpin

Howard Clinton Turpin, age 84, of Salem, VA passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 6, 2017. Howard was the youngest of twelve children, born July 20, 1932, in Radford, Virginia, the son of Bentley Clayton Turpin Sr. and Ocie Nelson Turpin. Six brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death. A graduate of Radford High School, Howard was an alumnus of the Moody Institute in Chicago and attended the University of Illinois. He was a retired employee of the City of Roanoke with 30 years of service, including positions in the Office of Real Estate Valuation and in the Office of the Commissioner of Revenue. Howard is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jean Turpin; his sons, Michael K. Turpin of Salem, VA and Terry L. Turpin of Davidsonville, MD; two grandchildren, Hillary J. Turpin and Kyle Z. Turpin; his sister, Bernice Kotnich of Media, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Simpson Funeral Home and Crematory in Roanoke.
