Velma Ruth Rose Harman, 88, of Roanoke, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 31, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband B. B. Harman, her parents John P. and Eva Mae Witt Rose, son Thomas V. Harman, three brothers , Odell, Van Dorn, and Victor Rose, a sister, Regina Rose, and her mother-in-law, Martha E. Harman. Velma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She lived and worked in Welch, West Virginia, having retired from G. C. Murphy Company in 1974, and thereafter running a successful cake business from her home. She was a wonderful cook and was truly the heart of her home and family. She was a faithful member of Trinity Temple in Welch. After moving to Roanoke in 1993, she attended Green Ridge Baptist Church and especially cherished her many loving and supportive friends in her Sunday School Class. She loved the Lord and was a great prayer warrior. She will be deeply missed by all her family, friends, and acquaintances. Survivors include her children: Linda (Ed) Parsons, Burrell (Uygonda) Harman, Carol (Jerry) Walton, Martha Harman, and daughter-in-law Delores J. Harman; grandchildren: B. B. Harman, Jeffrey (Marisa) Harman, Aimee Arias, Todd (Julie) Parsons, and Jessica (Curtis) Hicks; nine great-grandchildren J. D., Joseph, Danniella, and Sophia Harman, Macie and Marley Parsons, Zack Arias, and Emily and Justin Thomas Hicks; sister Laquatta (Marcus) Smith; brothers E. J. Rose, John P. Rose, Ronnie (Margaret) Rose; numerous nieces and nephews, and her neighbor and best friend, Belle Tucker. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Pheasant Ridge and all of our special friends who have been so helpful during Mother’s illness. Funeral services will be conducted Noon on Monday, April 3, 2017, at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with the Rev. Mike Palmer and the Rev. Cleveland Harrison officiating. A graveside service will be held Noon on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in the Chapel at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Route 52, Bluewell, West Virginia, with Rev. Larry Roberts officiating. Interment will follow. The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
