Obituary of Guy Edward McAllister

Guy Edward McAllister of Roanoke (always known as Eddie) passed away peacefully at Carrington Place in Daleville on Friday, March 17, 2017. He was born in Wytheville, VA and played in Richlands, VA before moving to Roanoke in 1952. He was the son of the late Hood and Alice McAllister. Eddie was a graduate of William Fleming High School where he met the love of his life and soul mate, Frances. He retired after 40 years of service with the Norfolk Southern Railway. He loved to travel, to take trips across the country, and watch UVA and Washington Nationals ball games. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Frances Hart McAllister; three wonderful and devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Ted and wife Debbie of Fincastle, Rodney of Roanoke, and Doug and wife Stephanie of Indian Trail, NC; beloved grandchildren, Caleb and Hannah of Fincastle who lovingly called him Gramps, Tate of Indian Trail, NC who lovingly called him Pop (he always said he had two special names from three special grandchildren). Also surviving are a brother, David McAllister and wife Mina of Richmond; and sister, Donna Forbes and husband Bill of Hollywood, Fla; sister-in-law, Shirley Doyle of Vicksburg, Mississippi; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and wonderful friends. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff at Carrington Place and the Good Samaritan Hospice staff for the loving care he received. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Bethany Christian Church 3115 Fleming Avenue Roanoke, Va. 24012. A celebration of Eddie’s life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Bethany Christian Church with the Rev. Elaine Austin and Rev. Matthew Ricks officiating.
