Obituary of Betty Joyce Collins (nee Pope)

Betty Joyce Collins (nee Pope), of Vinton, passed away March 12, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born March 8, 1932 in Childersburg, AL to the late Virginia and Henry Pope.
Betty grew up in Panama City, FL. After graduation from Bay High School, she entered the United States Air Force, where she became a dental hygienist. During her tour of duty in the Air Force from 1950-1954, she enjoyed a variety of duty stations, including Hickam AFB in Hawaii. She married the love of her life, Duane W. Collins, on December 6, 1952 at Hickam AFB Chapel. She later graduated from Perry Business College in Martinsville, VA with a degree in business management. Her past employment included General Electric in Salem, VA. She operated and owned Mattress Outlet in Vinton, VA. Betty retired in January of 1990.
A sister preceded her in death; she is survived by a sister and a brother. Betty was a devoted wife and mother in addition to being an expert homemaker. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Duane W. Collins (of Vinton) and her daughter Mitzi L. Collins (of Edgewater, MD).
