Doris S. Poling, 72, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 28, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Cora DeWeese Simpson, a son, Paul Shane Poling and several brothers and sisters. Doris retired from the claims department of Allstate Insurance. Surviving are her son John "Jay" Poling of Roanoke; granddaughters, Jessica and Shanah and their mom Andrea; great grandson, Cole; brother, Hugh Simpson of Bent Mountain; and sister, Laura Wimmer of Wilmington, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family offers a special thanks to the staff on the 10th floor Oncology Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their many acts of compassion. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 3021 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
