Eleanor Flippen Richardson 83, of Salem went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 14, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Martin and Mary Perdue Flippen, a sister, Gloria Jean Cundiff, and a son-in-law, Russell Townsley. Surviving are her loving husband Paul T. Richardson; children, Paul Tyler Richardson, Jr. and wife Donna, Martha R. Townsley, Kyle M. Richardson and wife Beth; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Eleanor admitted daily that Paul was the “Love of her life” for 64 years. Their relationship was grounded in the Lord and their romance was something the children aspired to have in their own lives. Eleanor used her spiritual gifts and talents to serve the community as an R.N. and Assistant Director of Nursing @ Community Hospital. As a member of Melrose Baptist Church she served in many ministries including teaching youth through seniors. Eleanor had a light within her that was evident to everyone she met. Her zest for life kept her active and on the move with her family and her friends. Travel was a passion she enjoyed as often as possible .A very special thanks to many friends and God’s Angels in the Surgical ICU at Lewis Gale, Melanie, Sara and Jamie. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Melrose Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Melrose Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Sprouse and the Rev. Brenda Rowe. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
