Joseph (Jake) Duschean, 84, of Roanoke went to be with the Lord Friday, June 22, 2012. Jake spent many years as a store manager with Kroger before branching out with his own grocery store, J & K Shop & Save. Coming full circle, he ended his career working part-time for Kroger well past the age of retirement.
For a hobby, Jake travelled the highways and byways of Virginia, photographing historical markers across the state. His health deserted him before he could complete the photo compilation he'd dreamed of doing.
Jake was preceded in death by his son, David Christopher Duschean. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Aileen Blankenship Duschean and their children, Teresa Duschean of Roanoke, Douglas P. (Doug) Duschean of Roanoke, Darren Michael Duschean of Roanoke and Tracy Duschean Williams and husband, Thomas of Roanoke, and by their grandchildren Jacob and Alec Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Lung Association. The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 p.m. on Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home & Crematory, 540-366-0707.
