Obituary of Nathan Everett Walker

Nathan Everette Walker of Vinton passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Nathan was born in Buena Vista to Nathan F. and Myra Staton Walker on June 5, 1935. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger, Lonnie, and Edgar Walker; his sisters, Patricia Landrum, Yvonne Porter, and Phyllis Jennings, and his wife, Carolyn W. Walker. Nathan leaves to remember his joyful spirit, his partner in life, Mary Kay Preston and her family, Amber, David, Tyler, and Trevor Duncan; son, Jason and wife Melissa Walker; sister, Wyman D. Phillips of Buena Vista; sister-in-law, Carolyn J. Walker of Roanoke; brother-in-law, Rod Porter of Concord, N.C.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that were fortunate to have had this special man in their lives. His pawn shop family and friends will miss his laughter and love. He was like a brother to them. Nathan had been an avid outdoorsman most of his life, hunting, fishing, and boating and in more recent years just riding his four wheeler to his garden. We will all forever remember him with a smile on his face and love in his heart. A special thanks to Mary Kay’s sister, Teresa Mullins for everything, and to Hospice for allowing him to go with peace and dignity at home. Nathan recently said he knew when he left this world he would be with his Heavenly Father. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to a favorite charity or to a hospice group. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
