Arvilla Vaughn Shaffar 3/14/1929 – 1/20/2017 Arvilla Vaughn Shaffar, of Roanoke, Va - formerly of Lumberton, NJ died peacefully at the age of 87 surrounded by her loving family. Born March 14, 1929 in Matthews, MO to Aura Hill and John Riley Vaughn, Arvilla grew up in Sikeston, Mo and married Delbert M. Shaffar from Morehouse, MO. They traveled throughout their lives while enjoying a long career in the USAF until his retirement at McGuire AFB, NJ when they settled in Mt. Holly, NJ. Most of Arvilla’s life was spent raising her family. She retired from Burlington County Health and Human Services after many years and was also involved in the Moose Lodge in Mt Holly for several years. She traveled extensively throughout her life and especially loved Denver,CO and he time she spent in Japan and Germany. She shared her wonderful sense of humor and quick wit with everyone she met. She was kind and gentle and impressed everyone with her incredible personality. She loved life, living, laughing and being with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her son, John Steven Shaffar predeceased her along with 2 great - grandaughters Elisabeth Grace Stevens and Josie Ann-Elise Campbell also her baby brother Johnny Frankin Vaughn who have undoubtedly already welcomed her into heaven. She leaves behind to mourn her passing her nine living children: Cheri (Billy) Downs, Batesville, MS; Marsha Dunn, Brushton, NY; Jo (Les) Bohony, Delran, NJ; Sue Shaffar, Montvale, NJ; Delbert (Patricia) Shaffar Jr, Leland, NC; Sarah (Jim) Hutchins, Mt. Holly, NJ; Jim (Ulli) Shaffar, Nuremberg, Germany; Jeff (Maria) Shaffar, Port Angeles, WASH; and Lisa (Tim) Bradley, Roanoke, VA where she had been living since Oct. 2014. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Services will begin at 10am at Perenchief Chapels in Mt Holly, NJ on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Her cremains will be interred at the Mt Holly Cemetery following the services.
