Obituary of Joyce Mae Yopp

Joyce Mae Brumfield Yopp, 74, of Roanoke went to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 24, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Woodrow J. Brumfield and granddaughter, Meagan Marie Yopp. She is survived by her faithful puppy, Molly; mother, Beulah Brumfield Lynch; son, William David (Billy) Yopp and fiance' Susan Pellegrinetti; loving daughter, Julie Yopp Aliff (who dedicated eight years standing by her mother's side caring for and fighting this battle with her) and Julie's life partner, Garland N. Davis, Jr.; sisters, Sheila Huffman and husband Rick, Brenda Hodge and husband Jerry; many nieces, nephews and friends. Joyce was an employee of Halmode Apparel for eighteen years, and when they closed she studied for her GED and later graduated from Dominion College. After graduation she went to work for Lewis Gale Physicians until she was diagnosed with breast cancer and forced to retire. For Joyce family came first. She was an amazing cook and was well known for her baking. She loved birds (especially hummingbirds), road trips, travel and especially her baby, Molly. A special thanks to Dr. Marc Currie and Ruth Ann, Dr. John Rogers and the fabulous staff at the Infusion Center, all at Lewis Gale Medical Center. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to St. Jude Childrens Hospital P O Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis TN 38101-9908 A celebration of Joyce's life will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road.
