Obituary of LaVerne F. Andrew

LaVerne F. Andrew, 91, of Roanoke passed away Monday, December 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert John Andrew, parents, Edward F. and Lucille Curtis Schira, brother, Edward Schira, sister, Carol Holstein, and sons-in-law, Thomas Meyer and Steve Jones. Mrs. Andrew was born in St. Louis, Mo. on December 20, 1924 and moved to Roanoke, Va. with her family in 1966. She was employed as a secretary for many years at St. Andrews Elementary School. LaVerne was a former member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and more recently a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Her hobbies included knitting hats for the Rescue Mission, and making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for the children in her life. She was an incredible baker and cook and most importantly a great mother. Surviving are her children, Kathleen Meyer, Susan Tampasis and husband Evangelos, Teresa (Terry) A. Jones, Sandra Andrew and husband Gary Adkins, Robert John Andrew Jr. and wife Barbara Ann, Daniel Edward Andrew and wife Linda; grandchildren, Gretchen Meyer and husband Amos Lowe, Adam Meyer and wife Stefania, Maureen Mattravers and husband Caleb, Thomas Meyer II, Althea Tampasis, Desma Tampasis, Andrew Tampasis and wife Cindy, Kara Albes and husband Mike, Nicole Taylor and husband Brenon, Nathaniel Robert Andrew, Jacob Thomas Andrew; great grandchildren, Sofia and Lucas Meyer, Walter and Martin Mattravers, Nayeli and Catori Taylor. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Meals on Wheels Program C/O the League of Older Americans P O Box 14205 Roanoke, Va. 24038-4205 A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church 314 Turner Road Salem, Va. Entombment will follow in St. Andrews Diocesan Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. 366-0707
