Ruth Wray Young, 82, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, October 26, 2016. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Rufus Wray, sisters, Emma Jean Wray and Annie Harris, brothers, John Wayne Wray and Herman Wray, and her parents James Rufus and Erslea Agnew Wray.
Ruth was a former employee of Roanoke Garment Company and retired from Roanoke City Schools. She was devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was an accomplished seamstress.
Surviving are her husband, James Russell Young; step/daughter, Teresa Doyon; grandson, Billy Jones; sisters, Corine Albert and husband R.K., Mary Mullins and husband Harold, and Wanda Nolley; brothers, Thurman Wray and wife Bonnie, Charlie Wray and wife Sette, Herbert Wray and wife Judy; numerous nieces and nephews including a special great niece, Shannon Doss and best friend, Marc Williams.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Forever Home Animal Rescue 1236 Meadow Spring Road Bedford, VA 24523.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road with the Rev. Joe Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Simpson Funeral Home. 366-0707
