Gary W. Buckner, 67, of Roanoke went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 29, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph D. (Joe) Buckner, Sr. and Betty Smith Buckner; brother, Joseph D. (Danny) Buckner, Jr.; sisters, Norma J. Buckner, Penny G. Buckner, Earlene C. Mills, and Patricia A. (Teresa) Yates.
Gary was the owner and operator of Gary's Courier Service for over 40 years serving many of the Roanoke Valley's businesses.
Surviving are his former wife, Donna Buckner; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Walker (Jason); brothers, George Buckner (Jean), Kenneth Buckner (Carla); sisters, Debra Winfrey and Rose Broukal; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Gary's "gaurdian angel" Linda Buckner, the staff at University of Virginia Medical Center, and the staff of Medi Home Health for their many acts of kindness.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Simpson Funeral Home 5160 Peters Creek Road. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
