Obituary of Vivian Youngs Atherley

Please share a memory of Vivian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vivian Youngs Atherley 86 of Roanoke, Virginia passed away Monday August 15, 2016, ending her long struggle with cancer. Vivian chose Hospice care at home over further radiation treatments, and the family is grateful to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice in Salem for the helpful assistance they provided. Vivian is survived by her husband, Kenneth Atherley; sister, Wilma Adamo; her children, David Trentlage, Linda Bruun, Becky Trentlage, and Tom Trentlage; seven grandchildren, and a recently added great granddaughter. Vivian was born and grew up in Chicago, meeting and marrying Ken at mid-life and moving to his home in New York. In 1985 they came to Roanoke, along with the famous flood. While this was a unusual welcome, it did not dissuade them from becoming the owners of Peters Creek Frame and Art on Peters Creek Road where Vivian was active in that business for the past thirty years. Vivian was also active as Treasurer of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. In addition, a strong supporter of the church. Friends wishing to make a contribution in Vivian’s memory, can send them in lieu of flowers to the church at 1155 Overland Road, Roanoke, VA. 24015. Vivian left this world looking forward to a new beginning and will be waiting ahead when it becomes our time to join her. She left a wish to be cremated and a memorial service to be held 11:00am Saturday August 20, 2016 in Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke. An opportunity to visit with the family will follow the service.
