Obituary of Billie Margaret Long

Billie Margaret Violla Long, 90, of Roanoke and formerly of Bristol, Tenn., passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Errol V. Long. She was also preceded by a son, Jackie V. Long to whom she dedicated 66 years of her life to his care and well being due to his physical and mental challenges.
She was a devoted mom, caregiver, wife, and mentor, in addition to being a nanny to her grandchildren. Through the decades of her life she was well loved by her numerous friends.
Surviving are her sons, Ronald (Edwana) Long of Reidsville, N.C., and Jeff Long of Salem; grandchildren, Ryan B. (Nicole) Long, Cydney M. Penza, Jesse (Jacqueline) Long, and David and Derek Long; seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Brandon Oaks and to the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their many acts of compassion and kindness.
The family will honor Mrs. Long's request that there be no visitation or funeral service.
