Arlie Ray Saul of Roanoke VA born October 8, 1957 went to be with his lord and savior on Sunday, June 18, 2016. Preceded in death by father Raymond D. Saul and mother Ruth Campbell Saul of Roanoke, brothers William Saul and wife Judy of Boones Mill, Bobby, Saul, sisters Virginia Hurt and husband Andy, Joyce Young Barber and husband Lucky, Barbara Jean Gibson and husband Jimmy, brother Douglas “Butch” Young and wife Betty Jo all of Roanoke VA. Surviving are wife of 34 years Linda Arnold Saul; son Pastor Anthony “Andy” Saul, wife Cheryl McDannell Saul; granddaughters Abby and Hannah Saul all of Cedar Rapids IA. Beloved pets Lulu, Mandy and Ginger; Brothers Donnie Young and partner John Kirchgessner of Rochester NY previously of Charlottesville VA, Jimmy Saul and wife Dora of Roanoke, brother Larry Saul and wife Carol of Stewartsville, brother Jesse Young and wife Wanda of Calloway VA; and special niece Pam Barber Meador and her husband Dean of Roanoke, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. As a child living in Boones Mill Arlie worked on local farms, then as a carpenter for Glen Frith Construction. In the late 70’s he was employed by Burlington Industries in Vinton VA and in the early 80’s driving for Roanoke Ready Mix. For years he was self-employed as a remodeling contractor. In 1995 while employed by Door and Hardware of Rocky Mount he had surgery to remove a benign spinal cord tumor which later left him disabled. Arlie had loved to hunt, fish and was an avid woodworker but chronic pain no longer allowed him to enjoy these things. In August 2015, after the sudden onset of symptoms he was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Brain Cancer, he was treated surgically, with radiation and then chemotherapy. Special thanks to loving caregivers Donnie Young, Pam and Dean Meador and the entire staff of Good Samaritan Hospice. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Tuesday, June 21 at Simpson Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday June 22, 2016 at Mountain View Cemetery at Vinton.
